Curtis joined the Ancient City Baptist Church staff in 2006. ACBC holds a special place in his heart because it is where he grew up, accepted Christ, played his first hymns, did his first accompanying work, and served as church pianist. Curtis has performed solo and ensemble works throughout the area and is widely recognized as one of the area’s leading accompanists and music directors. He has performed the entire spectrum of instrumental and vocal music genres; to include musical theater, opera, solo vocal and instrumental, church and choral music. He has served as a church musician, guest accompanist and soloist throughout the east coast with over 50 musical theater productions and 100-plus sacred cantata and operatic programs to his credit.

As the founder of the Summer Musical TheatreCamp for Kids and Teens in St. Augustine, area children have been given music theater experiences through over 40 summer productions. Just completing its sixteenth season, SMTC had approximately 150 kids and teens coming from across the country to participate in this summer educational camp with four productions during the summer of 2010.

Curtis Powell is an honorary member of the Board of Directors of EMMA – The St. Augustine Concert Association and currently produces their Music Masters Lecture Series. He is also a member of Music Teacher‘s National Association and the American Choral Director’s Society and holds degrees in piano performance and choral conducting.
